Year 5

Mrs Wayman teaches the Year 5 class. The curriculum follows the requirements of the National Curriculum. Pupils are prepared for entry into any school of their parents’ choice, usually sitting the eleven plus for the local Grammar School for boys and High school for girls at the start of Year 6. The school is particularly proud of its excellent eleven plus record.
This class is based in the main Georgian building. Classrooms and corridors are spacious and comfortable with extensive displays of the children's work. Each classroom has its own interactive whiteboard and computer. Children have specialist teachers for Music, ICT, French, PE and Games. We also have a number of specialist rooms including a large Art and Design room, Music room with practice facilities, ICT suite and a spacious modern Sports Hall with changing rooms.
Educational outings and visiting speakers form an integral part of the curriculum. There are a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities available to pupils throughout the week, both during the day and after school.
Children are encouraged to take on more responsibility as they move through the school and part of this is ensuring they have an active say in their school. Children are represented on the School Council by elected children from their classes; they meet regularly to discuss opportunities they would like to see developed in school as well as looking at what they can do for others such as local charities.
