Relationship And Health Education Policy Consultation
At Ayscoughfee Hall School, we believe that Relationships and Health Education are vital for preparing our children for their future. We want them to lead happy, healthy lives, confident to be able to look after themselves. We have updated our approach to Relationships and Health Education in accordance with the new government guidelines.
We will always encourage the children to share their own views whilst challenging their thinking,
particularly with regard to stereotypes and potential prejudices. Our aim is to prepare the children for life in our diverse, multi-cultural society in modern Britain, sharing mutual respect.
Our PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) lessons encompass most of the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education. They are taught throughout the year in assemblies and PSHEE lessons that are age appropriate. Some biological aspects are taught within the science curriculum, and other aspects are included in P.E., Computing (e-safety) or other relevant areas of the curriculum such as the ‘Cooking and Nutrition’ area of Design and Technology or Forest School.
We are following the PSHE Association scheme and using their resources to support our PSHEE teaching, supplemented by additional resources from the Collins scheme and other sources.
Most of the work we do in PSHEE lessons, will be discussion and debate. Our class books will record our progress in this work. Children's PSHEE books will be used for personal reflection and for exploring ideas within each unit of work.
To better understand these changes within our school setting, please see the guide for parents and our draft policy for Relationships and Health Education. It is a requirement to consult parents before this policy is ratified. We value the opinions of our families and invite any comments / questions you may have. Please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org so they can be considered before the final policy is approved.
The consultation period will end at 1pm Friday 11th December 2020.
