Early Years

“Outcomes for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are excellent with almost all achieving, and a large majority exceeding, their early learning goals by the end of their reception year.

ISI Inspection Report 2021

Our Kindergarten and Reception classes for 3 to 5 year olds, suit the needs of very young children.  There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere which is a happy learning environment for children beginning their formal education.

Our children learn through play and having fun, we engage them in a variety of activities and they are very much a part of the whole school.  Even at this young age pupils integrate with the older children by attending assemblies and taking part in school events such as school productions and Sports Day.

Both classes benefit from having dedicated full time teaching assistants providing our children with exceptional levels of staffing care. Pupils from just 3 years old gain from our specialist teachers and have dedicated lessons in Music and Movement, Singing, PE and Spanish in Reception.

As part of our ongoing breadth of curriculum we are delighted to be working with Children's Woodland Adventures, offering our children outdoor curriculum experiences.

Class sizes are small ensuring that we develop and nurture each child’s interests. Boys and girls learn happily with ease and are able to read, write and complete simple sums by the time they are 4½ years of age. By the end of Reception nearly all children exceed the goals set nationally for this age.

We have a wide selection of reading in our book corners and children have access to different medias and technology in the form of our iPads, ICT equipment and BeeBots. We believe that technology, games and activities help the children gain a deeper understanding of number and letter skills.

The Kindergarten class has its own self-contained outdoor play area and entrance so even our youngest children feel safe and secure.

Ayscoughfee is very much a family environment, we work closely with parents and believe that communication between home and school is of paramount importance. We have a completely open door policy, there is the opportunity to talk with teachers and qualified staff at drop off and pick up times. Our home/school contact book provides another means of important communication between parents and staff.  Each child in our Early Years Foundation Stage has a ‘Learning Journey’ book which tracks and records your child’s progress through photos and information.  Parents may access these books at any time, they are sent home each half term and are discussed at our regular parent consultations. In addition to this, we use an online platform called Seesaw which allows us to update parents during the week with photos and snapshots of their children’s learning and activities in class. The Early Years Foundation Stage is an integral part of our children’s education and journey through Ayscoughfee Hall School, as such the children also feature regularly in our Facebook, Instagram and Website.

If your child is starting with us in Kindergarten or you are considering enrolling them on their Ayscoughfee Hall School journey you may like to sit with your child and show them the attached picture booklet which showcases all of the wonderful things they will be doing when they join us.
