The children confidently presented their learning, sharing fascinating facts about how the Romans invaded Britain, how the Celts lived and how life changed after the Roman Empire arrived on British shores.

Every child played their part beautifully. They worked incredibly hard to practise their lines and performances. Their confidence, clear speaking voices and teamwork made us immensely proud.

This term, all year groups have been working towards presenting their own assemblies. We have already enjoyed some lovely assemblies from our older year groups and are now looking forward to seeing our infant classes take to the stage in the weeks to come.

Well done, Year 3 — you were fantastic!

A huge highlight for both groups has been preparing and performing "The Big, Little Nativity". From enthusiastic dancing camels to singing sheep and joyful songs. The children truly shone on stage and we are incredibly proud of every performer. 

With the festivities continuing, with the much-anticipated Infant Party, the Christmas cheer is still going strong in our Early Years!

We are incredibly grateful for the generous support of our sponsors – Big Jig Toys, CDS Labour and South Lincs Construction – as well as our PTFA, who continue to fundraise in support of the minibus.

Our Reception class took part in their very first Spanish lesson this week and they were absolutely incredible!  We are so proud of how enthusiastically they joined in and the wonderful start they have made to their language learning journey.

This term in Spanish, the younger children will be exploring key topics such as greetings, numbers, animals and celebrations – with plenty of interactive lessons ahead!

Meanwhile, our junior classes are focusing on French. They are already busy preparing for their upcoming Zoom call with our partner school in Trevaux, as well as working on their very first PenPal letters. It is so exciting to see languages brought to life through real connections, giving our pupils the chance to practise their skills and make new friends along the way.

We can’t wait to see all the progress our children will make in languages this year – a brilliant beginning to what promises to be a very exciting term!

Cookery is an important part of our curriculum, giving children the chance to develop practical life skills, independence and confidence – all while having fun. The cookery room was soon filled with the wonderful aroma of baking and the happy chatter of children working together. It was fantastic to see how well they followed instructions, supported one another and took pride in their creations.

Well done, children – your pizza pinwheels looked absolutely delicious!

This week, we have been talking about our families, our likes and dislikes and what makes each of us unique. The children have loved joining in with our class story, I Like Bees, I Don’t Like Honey and we have also been sharing some of our favourite books from home.

It has been such a joy to watch the children settle into routines, learning to line up, join in with activities and begin their school journey. Boys and girls – we are so proud of you!

Several of the children who joined Kindergarten this year first came along to Bright Beginnings, our toddler group that runs every Friday during term time from 10.00am to 11.30am. It has been lovely to see those familiar faces returning as Kindergarten pupils and we look forward to welcoming more toddlers as they begin their own journeys with us.

Well done, Kindergarten – what an amazing start! We are excited to see all the wonderful things you will do this year.

Children and staff came to school dressed in wonderful 1940s-style clothing and enjoyed traditional wartime games like hopscotch, jump rope, and jacks, bringing history to life in a fun and meaningful way.

A special thank you to Mr & Mrs Langwade for bringing in their classic car, along with wartime medals and ration books, and to Mrs Forster for sharing a treasured collection of her Nanna’s wartime artefacts – these special items gave the children a unique chance to see and learn about the past up close.

In the afternoon, we welcomed families into school for a touching celebration featuring readings, wartime songs, dancing, and 1940s music, followed by a warm cup of tea or coffee as we gathered together in remembrance.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today so special.

Each house had planned a range of exciting activities, including group discussions, building challenges, singing, arts and crafts, and a fun "Guess the Teacher’s Book Face" competition! There was something for everyone, and it was fantastic to see our students working together so beautifully, supporting each other across all year groups.

World Book Day provided a wonderful opportunity for the whole school to come together, share a love of reading, and embrace the creativity that books inspire. It was a day full of enthusiasm and teamwork, and we couldn’t be more proud of how our students participated.

A huge thank you to all the teachers for organising such an engaging and enjoyable day!

To start the week on a positive note, our wonderful School Councillors greeted the children and parents at the school gate, offering cheerful greetings and positive written messages. These small but meaningful gestures helped set the tone for a day full of happiness, kindness, and self-care.

Each child will bring home a special seed packet as part of our celebration of Mental Health Week. This year, the theme is "Know Yourself, Grow Yourself", which encourages children and young people across the UK to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to them. Just like the seeds in the packet, we believe that when we take time to understand who we are, we can grow, build resilience, and develop into the best version of ourselves. By nurturing our mental health, we are empowered to face challenges, grow stronger, and thrive. We encourage families to plant the seeds together as a reminder that just as seeds grow with care, so does our mental well-being when we invest in understanding and looking after ourselves.

Our fantastic Year 6 Infant Helpers continue to support the younger children every day as part of their important role. Their ongoing dedication plays a key part in creating a positive and supportive environment throughout the school. On Wednesday, we’ll have ‘Buddy Time’, when the older children will spend quality time with the younger ones in their classrooms. They’ll share stories, engage in conversations, and play games together, building strong connections and fostering friendships across all year groups.

On the same day, we will also have a fun “Drop Your Books and Boogie” event! Children of all ages will take part in a spontaneous dance session to let off steam, have fun, and celebrate Mental Health Week in a lively way. It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get moving, smiling, and connecting with friends.

As part of our focus on mental health and well-being, we are also supporting causes that protect and support children. On Friday, 7th February, we will be raising money for the NSPCC, a charity that works tirelessly to protect children and support their mental health. On this day, we’re inviting children to come to school dressed as their favourite number, or as a creative representation of numbers! Whether it’s a t-shirt with their favourite number or a more elaborate costume, it’s all about creativity and fun! We kindly ask for a £1 donation per child, with all funds going towards the NSPCC.

We hope this week inspires everyone to focus on the importance of mental health, kindness, and caring for ourselves and others.

Below is an account of the day written by our four Year 6 House Captains: - 

Vikings - Italy

First, the Vikings split into groups for two activities; pasta jewellery and fruit portraits based on Guiseppe Arcimboldo.

After this we looked at Geography, landmarks in Italy and built our own leaning towers of Pisa out of different materials. We then had to match the names of the Italian landmarks and place them on a map. After lunch, we learned different Italian phrases and even how to sing happy birthday in Italian, which we performed to the school.

Romans – Australia
At the start of the day, we learnt about Australia and then we split up into two groups - one half learnt about the Great Barrier Reef and made turtles and jellyfish, and the other group learnt about the outback, the didgeridoo and Aboriginal dot art. We even made The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. After lunch, we learnt a song about a Kookaburra and how to sing in a round. We then performed this song to the school.

Saxons- Japan

Our theme for International Day was Japan. In the morning, our house split into two groups, one creating Japanese Kawaii art and characters, and the other making some flying fish kites and Origami cats. After break, we were taught some martial arts by Sacha and then tried some Boba/bubble tea and tried some Sushi. Later on, we learnt numbers and words in Japanese. We presented all of our amazing learning in our afternoon assembly.

Normans – Mexico

The Normans Country was Mexico. In the morning the juniors created lanterns with jars and glass pens with tissue paper and tea lights, while the infants created masks and lanterns with paper plates. In the afternoon, we had Nacho Cheese (it was yummy!) and we practised a great dance; the infants made shakers to shake at our ‘Day of the Dead’ parade. Then it was time to perform our amazing dance to everybody.

The costumes that came through the gate on Tuesday morning were fantastic. Thank you to all our parents for your efforts and support with these. In school, the children took part in a variety of book day activities, including writing collaborative stories across the year groups and 'drop everything and read', which was a great success. Thank you to the Book Bunnies for ringing the bell, notifying us to stop what we were doing, grab a book and collectively read a story. In assembly, the winners of the Book Bunnies bookmark competition were announced. We saw some fantastic entries – well done to everyone who took the time to enter the competition. The winning entries will be made into bookmarks and available for sale soon!

Last term saw our Reading Ambassadors launch the first edition of the Book Bunnies Newsletter. The Book Bunnies' goal is to promote and further improve a love of reading in school and to help children discover new worlds through books. We hope you all enjoyed reading their newsletter, which featured some amazing book reviews from the children.

At Ayscoughfee Hall School, we are committed to nurturing a love of reading and believe in celebrating the magic of storytelling and the power of books.

I would like to take this opportunity to also thank you as parents for your wonderful support for the school; it is always highly valued and appreciated. We are very lucky to have such a supportive school community, and this is never taken for granted by any of us.
