Year 1
| Year One is an exciting year when children are encouraged to be more independent and children become more proficient at reading and writing. We aim to generate a lively enthusiasm for learning and provide opportunities to experience a wide breadth of activities and learning styles. The main emphasis continues to be a combination of supporting, building and honing basic skills in literacy and numeracy. We also develop enrichment through stimulating topics and specialist subject areas, within a fully differentiated curriculum using open-ended questions to challenge every ability. All children can achieve success in a happy, caring atmosphere. | |
![]() | Class teachers are responsible for most areas of the curriculum, but we have specialist teachers for French, Music and P.E. Children can start to learn an individual instrument if you wish. All children start swimming lessons as part of their PE curriculum. Learning Support in both literacy and numeracy is available to provide help and challenge for the least and most able. |
| | One of our favourite days is Pirate Day which we love! We also have the opportunity to perform in assemblies, the Infant production and festivals. We pack a lot into the Infants! |
Parents are always welcome and Mrs Nicholls values daily contact with them. We work in partnership with parents to achieve each child's best potential.
